Concept Project

This project explores how a centralised digital platform could simplify the process of discovering and tracking creative opportunities for artists in Ireland.

CHALLANGE

How might we reduce the friction artists experience when searching for creative opportunities online?

Problems

Fragmented information- founding opportunities are scattered across multiple websties

Lack of Application Tracking tools

Difficult Opportunity Comparison

Smaller Opportunities are hard to discover

Goals

Centralise creative opportunities in one platform

Introduce an application tracking system

Simplify comparison between opportunities

Improve visibility of smaller and emerging programmes

How do artists discover opportunities?

Artists frequently rely on multiple websites, social media pages, screenshots, and personal notes

to track opportunities and application deadlines.

Going through search history

countless times

Saved screenshots and instagram posts

Multiple tabs open constantly and

the fear of closing them

Notes Apps with deadlines

and information that gets lost

Conclusion

☀️ Creative opportunities are often spread across multiple platforms with inconsistent structures, making them difficult to discover, compare, and track efficiently.

☀Artists frequently rely on scattered websites, social media, bookmarks, newsletters, and personal notes to manage application deadlines and opportunities.

  • 02.Competitive Analysis

I have compared 3 other similar platforms

    Open Call Finder

Instagram page where artist can see different opportunities

    Easy and fast discovery

    Visually engaging format

    Highly shareable and accessible

Difficult to organise and track opportunities

    Limited filtering and search functionality

Information can quickly get lost in feeds

    Art Council Website

A national funding platform that provides artists with access to funding opportunities across Ireland

    Trusted and reliable information source

    Detailed funding information

    Clear eligibility and application guidance

    Information heavy interface

    Difficult to compare opportunities

Can feel overwhelming for first time users

    Residency Artis

    Global residency opportunities website

    Strong filtering options

    Large residency database

    International opportunity access

    Dense information architecture

    Limited visual hierarchy

    No pricing information

05.User Interviews

To better understand how artists currently discover and manage creative opportunities,

I conducted short interviews with emerging artists, recent graduates and independent creatives.

4 Participants

2 emerging visual artist

1 art student

1 mid- career artist

Key Insights

Artists rely on major funding platforms

Most start on Arts Council Ireland

Smaller opportunities are hard to discover

County grants and gallery awards often missed

Information is fragmented across websites

Artists must check multiple sources to find funding.

Deadlines are difficult to track

Participants relied on notes, bookmarks, spreadsheets,

and screenshots to manage applications and deadlines.

Which platform do you use to apply for opportunities?

The interviews revealed a clear need for a more centralised, accessible, and visually intuitive way

to discover and manage creative opportunities.

09.Filters on desktop

To improve browsing efficiency, selected filters appear as removable pills beneath the filter controls. This allows users to track active selections and adjust search results quickly through a clear and visible filtering system.

010.Filters on mobile

The mobile layout focused on simplifying navigation, increasing readability, and prioritising key browsing actions for smaller screens.

To reduce interface clutter on smaller screens, filters were consolidated into an expandable overlay accessible through a prominent filter button.
